AROUND THE TRNOVO FOREST
A view through the Otlica Window, the remains of the ancient Roman fort Castro, and the picturesque village of Vipavski Križ. The 25-meter stone giant on the hilltop of Cerje offers breathtaking views – while standing as a solemn reminder of the senseless cruelty of the Isonzo Front. In Slovenia’s own Tuscany, don’t miss wine-tasting stops with the local winemakers, while on the other side of the Trnovo Forest, you’ll discover traditions of shoemaking and lace bobbin work. Explore the famous Rupnik Line, a historic defense system. Along the way, you might even come across traces of Neanderthals – and certainly the majestic Big Ice Cave in Paradana.
